How to be kind to yourself
Free!
Life can be tough, and we often put everyone and everything before ourselves. You’re no good to anyone if you collapse and to be honest you only have one body and one life so you need to nurture it.
Here are some tips on how you can be more kind to yourself.
1 |
Laugh! Maintain your humour, and smile whenever you can. |
2 |
Pace yourself and ease into the day. Don’t just jump out of bed and race to action. Start with taking three deep breaths then spend a few minutes doing some stretching exercises. |
3 |
Set some non-negotiable boundaries between your professional life and your personal life. For example, you do not have to be a slave to your email and phone. |
4 |
Schedule time for recovery. Have at least 15 minutes in the day that you devote completely to you, doing nothing. Blank out time in your diary if necessary. |
5 |
Treat yourself to something that refreshes you. Don’t feel guilty, it’s an essential part of restoring balance. |
6 |
Reflect on the challenges you may be experiencing. Why are they a challenge and how can you change the situation? |
7 |
Forgive yourself for any problems and mistakes. It’s a new day and a new start tomorrow, what is past has gone. |
8 |
Have an annual MOT. Ask your doctor to check your blood pressure and do some blood tests. Such as fasting blood sugar, cholesterol and thyroid. |
9 |
Speak up. Don’t be ashamed if you are finding it hard to cope right now. Talk to someone close to you, your HR manager or confidential help line. |
10 |
Get help. If things have gone too far, then get help; you cannot solve it alone. See your doctor. |
